Mark Hawley graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1979 with a B.A.Sc. in Geological Engineering, obtained an M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1983, and completed the Queens University Executive Program in 2004.  He joined Piteau Associates Engineering Ltd. in 1979 and is currently Executive Director and Chief Advisor - Geotechnical of the Piteau Associates Group (a Tetra Tech Company).

Mark has been involved in engineering geology, rock mechanics, geotechnical and hydrogeological studies for a wide variety of mining, forestry and civil engineering projects worldwide over a career spanning more than 45 years. He specializes in the investigation and design of high open pit slopes and waste rock dumps and has worked on more than 100 mining projects in 30 countries.
