Murray Fredlund was the founder of SoilVision Systems Ltd., which was acquired by Bentley Systems Inc. in 2018. He has spent much of his time over the past 24 years guiding the development of geotechnical software development. His work has particularly been focused on pioneering the use of 3D slope stability and large-strain consolidation analysis tools in the industry. Fredlund has been involved in many services projects involving open pit stability, heap leach flow/stability, waste rock stability, tailings stability, foundation analysis, and mine tailings consolidation. His work has included forensic modeling of the Mt. Polley, Cadia, and Feijao tailings dam failures. He continues to be active in training on numerical modeling and providing strategic planning advice at Bentley Software Inc.
