Adj. Prof. Martyn Robotham BSc, MSc, FAusIMM. Director, Robotham Consulting

Martyn is an internationally recognised and globally experienced expert in surface mine geomechanics and slope management.

He has 39 years of experience in engineering geology, geotechnical engineering, surface mine slope design and mine operations, and has worked in operations and in geotechnical consulting.  He joined Rio Tinto in 2001 and has been involved in mining and geotechnical work at all of their commodity groups in many different countries, including the role of Technical Manager Geological Services at the Bingham Canyon Mine.  In 2010, he led the Rio Tinto global geotechnical discipline and created and implemented company standards for slope

In his 21 years with Rio Tinto, Martyn has been a member of, and has led, major mine geotechnical review boards (GRBs) at Bingham Canyon, Oyu Tolgoi, Escondida, Resolution and Diavik.  Since becoming a director at Robotham Consulting Services, Martyn has continued to lead and support GRBs for BHP, Newmont and VALE and provide technical review support to AngloGold Ashanti, KPMG and Rio Tinto.

Martyn has authored and co-authored a number of technical papers and has provided lectures, keynote speeches and professional presentations at numerous conferences.  He is an Adjunct Professor at UQ’s School of Metallurgy and Mining, and is a Fellow of the Australian Institution of Mining and Metallurgy.
